Northland is the subtropical region of New Zealand and is famous for it's beaches and it's Kauri forests.

Many of the tribes-people of Northland trace their ancestry back to Kupe - a Maori hero of ancient times.

There is an annual Bay of Islands Arts Festival and the NZ Big Gamefishing Nationals at Tutukaka.

You can fly, drive or bus to Northland or follow the Twin Coast Discovery Highway, a great touring route which leaves and returns from Auckland.

All around the north you can try fresh local produce, a good selection of seafood and award winning local wines.
