Both Rotorua and Taupo are popular tourist destinations. Rotorua is a town of 70,000 people with a strong Maori history and culture.

Taupo has 4 international golf courses, 70 kilometres of mountain biking, bungy jumping, sky diving, rafting, and the famous Tongariro Crossing walk( one of the Great Walks in NZ)!

Taupo is a smaller town of 22,000 people. It lies on the Northern shores of Lake Taupo, NZ's largest lake. The towns and the schools are small, so you make friends with people easily.
Both towns are in an active volcanic region. The area is famous for it's geothermal activity including geysers, boiling mud pools and hot mineral water spas.

There are lots of outdoor activities like bush walking, sky-diving and white water rafting. NZ's largest ski resort Mt Ruapehu is near Taupo.

The trout fishing around this area is great! A good way to enjoy yourself after a hard day in the classroom!
