Palmerston North lies on the banks of the Manuatu River. It has a population of about 76,000 people. It is 7 hours drive from Auckland and 2 hours from Wellington. Palmerston North is served by an excellent international airport only a short distance from the city. |

It is close to the Tararua Mountain range. The city has both the feel of a big city and ease of a small town which gives visitors the best of both worlds. March brings the annual International Festival, a colourful celebration of the ethnic diversity embraced by the people and city of Palmerston North. |

There are two amateur live theatre companies and NZ's most sucessful multiplex cinema. October to March is the popular Stockcar season and World championship races. It is famous for it's short walks in native bush, or through the Manawatu Gorge, and tramping in the Ruahine, or Tararua Ranges. |
